How do I indicate a balance lens in a prescription?
Within the prescription, there is a check box to the left of the spherical power that indicates balance lens. The field name is "Bal." If the doctor recorded a power for that lens, checking the balance box will clear the power.
It is most common that no data is entered for sphere or cylinder on prescriptions with a balance lens indicated. However, if the provider wishes to indicate a power for a balance lens, the checkbox for "Bal" must be checked prior to entering any data for sphere, cylinder, or add.
