The following instructions are to reassign charges that have been applied to the incorrect payer.
Instructions
Charges can be corrected from the encounter or from the order.
Encounter
- Open an encounter > Billing workflow step.
- Ensure the incorrect payer's invoice is in pending status. Note: If assigned charges are on an insurance invoice AND charges for the patient's responsibility have been transferred, ensure the insurance invoice and the patient invoice are in pending status.
- If the invoice is not in pending, click the hyperlink of the invoice number.
- Click 'Pending.'
- Click 'Close.'
- Access the Assigned tab.
- Check the box for the item(s).
- Click 'Bulk Assign' and select the correct payer. Note: The system updates the encounter with the charges removed from the incorrect payer and the charges moved to the correct payer.
- If your situation included an insurance invoice AND an invoice for patient's responsibility, the system removes all charges, even those transferred, with the full balance on the correct payer. Access the newly created invoice for the correct payer to transfer patient's responsibility.
