Why can't I change the encounter type after the appointment has been started?
Encounter templates are configured with tests and screens applicable to a specific encounter appointment type. The system is not designed to adjust the encounter template after the appointment has been started.
The encounter appointment types are recorded as historical data and are included in the schedule and encounter reports. Changing the encounter type after the appointment has been started would impact accurate tracking of this data.
Our recommendation for best practice is to cancel the appointment and reschedule with the preferred encounter type.
