We recommend you take caution in this process as it cannot be undone.
When patient's files are merged, all files from the patient that you are merging "from" are saved into the patient you are merging "to," (e.g., Orders, Encounters). For example, if the patient you are merging "from" had one appointment, and the patient you are merging "to" has one appointment, the merged patient's file will have two appointments. However, the information within Demographics is only saved for the "To this patient" file; the "From this patient" Demographics information will not be saved.
Before completing the instructions, access the Demographics component of both patients' files and determine which patient's demographic information is the most current. The most current demographics information should be your "To this patient" in the instructions below.
Instructions
We strongly recommend you merge by using the patient ID so that the correct patient is merged in the correct direction.
- Access Patients > search for and open the patient whose information is being merged "From."
- Beside the patient's name in the patient's file header is their ID number. Make a note of the number. See Example
- Access Admin > Patient Management > Merge.
- Click the search icon beside the "Merge from this patient" field.
- In the Select a Patient modal, input patient search criteria using the ID field you noted in step #2. See Example
- Click 'Search.'
- Single click on the patient.
- Access Patients > search for and open the patient whose information is being merged "To." Note: Remember, this is the patient determined to have the most current demographics.
- Beside the patient's name in the patient's file header is their ID number. Make a note of the number.
- Access Admin. Note: The Patient Merge screen is displayed since you did not close the screen.
- Click the search icon beside the "To this patient" field.
- In the Select a Patient modal, input patient search criteria using the ID field you noted in step #8.
- Click 'Search.'
- Single click on the patient. Note: We recommend you take caution in this process as it cannot be undone.
- Click 'Merge.'
