Three provinces and a handful of territories are changing how daylight-saving time (DST) is observed:
- British Columbia
- Alberta
- Manitoba
- Territories in Ontario west of the 90th meridian, including Kenora
The November time-zone change is being made by the affected regions; it is not caused by a RevolutionEHR issue. Below we will share guidance and are working on a temporary resolution. Because the change was announced with little notice and affects only some customers, it’s difficult to predict how every device will handle it.
When a recurring appointment series crosses a time-zone or daylight-saving transition, a future calendar event may appear one hour earlier or later than intended in the schedule, patient portal, appointment summary, or customer notification. The displayed time may vary between devices depending on their time-zone settings and software updates.
A longer-term fix is in development but won’t be ready by November 1. Similar issues may occur again when the time changes in March; we’ll address those as we get closer and are making every effort to deploy the longer-term fix before March.
To ensure times display correctly, offices should update their computers, mobile devices, browsers and verify their time-zone settings. Impacted times could be appointments, slots, patient portal, and/or patient notifications sent by communication partners for appointments.
In addition, operating systems are in the process of running rolling updates to include new time zone options. There’s no confirmation that every device has received the update. As of October 20, updates are available on some platforms, but delivery depends on the operating system, device, and update settings.
- Windows: Microsoft’s October 13 updates add to the Manitoba time zone and support the permanent time changes in B.C. and Alberta. Customers still need to install the update on their PC.
- Apple: Apple advises installing the latest software and checking automatic time-zone settings, but I couldn’t confirm a public Apple notice that every Mac, iPhone, and iPad has received these specific Canadian rules.
- Android: Android has a separate time-zone update mechanism, but Google notes that preparing and delivering rule changes takes time. We are unable to confirm that every manufacturer and device has received them
Install available device and browser updates, restart, and verify the displayed time zone. The manufacturers will not promise that every device will handle the change identically. If your OS update does not provide the appropriate time zone options, you may need to wait and rerun the update periodically until it is correct.
Updating
IMPORTANT: Regardless of how your times are currently displaying, if you are in one of the provinces or territories included in this DST change you MUST perform the updates listed here:
Step 1. Update your devices
- Update the operating system on all your computers or mobile device to includes new time zones
- Windows: Install Windows Updates
- Non-Apple Mobile Device: Check & Update Your Android Version
- Mac: Update MacOS on Mac
- Apple Mobile Device: Update your iPhone or iPad
- Update all browsers to the lastest version.
- Use only supported browsers: RevolutionEHR System Requirements
- Check browser for updates: How do I update my internet browser?
Step 2. Check the Date & Time setting on your device
- Locate the time zone setting on your device
- Windows: Windows PC — Microsoft Support Microsoft Support
- Mac: Mac — Apple Support Apple Support (AU)
- iPhone: iPhone — Apple Support Apple Support (IE)
- IPad: iPad — Apple Support Apple Support
- Non-Apple Mobile Device: Android phone or tablet — Google Support
- Confirm your time zone, Make sure the selected time zone follows the rules for your practice location.
- British Columbia: (UTC-07:00) Pacific Time (British Columbia)
- Alberta: (UTC-06:00) Mountain Time (Alberta)
- Manitoba: (UTC-05:00) Manitoba
-
Ontario Communities west of the 90th meridian, including Kenora: (UTC-05:00) Manitoba
- Note: The change applies to the affected northwestern communities, not all of Northwestern Ontario. On devices that use city names, look for Winnipeg or an equivalent Central Time option at UTC−05:00
Step 3. Manual Resolution
On November 1, 2026, if there are still incorrect times displaying in one or more areas after confirming your device and browser are updated, your time zone is correct, and you have refreshed RevolutionEHR -a manual fix will be required:
- Do not choose a different time zone or toggle daylight-saving settings just to make one date look right; other dates may then display incorrectly.
- Manually reschedule the affected appointment(s) and/or slots.
