Referral Number on Claims

The following instructions are for the referral number on claims.

Electronic Claims

The referral number has a field on the electronic claim. 

1. Access a pending insurance invoice > Additional Claim Info.
2. In the Electronic Claim Codes section, in the Referral Number field, input the referral number.
3. Click 'Save.'

Paper Claims

There is not a specific referral number field on the HCFA. Prior Authorization, which is box 23 needs to be used as a catch-all field. Contact your payer to ensure entering the referral number in this field is their agreed upon practice.

1. Access a pending insurance invoice > Additional Claim Info.
2. In field (23) Prior Auth Number, input the referral number.
3. Click 'Save.'
