Posting an Overpayment - Patient Invoice

The following instructions are to post an overpayment on a patient's invoice.

Instructions

1. Open the patient's invoice to receive payment.
2. In the Payment Amount field, input the amount of the payment. Note: The number entered is not the invoice balance.
3. Follow the instructions below that apply to the way your practice normally processes payments:
   • If posting my line item: 
     • In the Items column, click the link for $0.00.
     • In the Payment Items modal, input the line item payments.
     • Click 'Save.'
   • If not posting by line item:
     • In the Payments column, input the payment amount.
4. Click 'Apply Payments.' Note: This action creates a negative balance on the invoice. See Grant Credit and/or Refund a Patient.
