Auto-coded diagnoses are triggered when a specific finding is entered into a test and saved by selecting another screen or by clicking next. Once a diagnosis is triggered and populates either Today's Findings or Today's Diagnoses, it will not be removed if a change to the finding is made.
When you document information for one eye and move to another screen, the system auto-codes for the one eye. If you return to that screen/test and document information for the second eye a second diagnosis for both eyes will be triggered. The bilateral diagnosis is in addition to the unilateral finding that was selected on the first visit to the screen, resulting in two diagnoses. Today's Findings or Today's Diagnoses do not update to remove the unilateral finding.
